Background
The Columbia River is a transboundary river system that is shared between Canada and the United States. Population growth, irrigation, hydropower and industrial development have increased demands on the water resources of the Columbia in both countries. At the same time, evolving social values have placed increased emphasis on the environmental and recreational values of the Columbia River.
The Canadian Columbia River Forum (CCRF) was created to help establish and maintain a dialogue on some of these issues and to try and resolve potential conflicts.

- Develop mechanisms to help the participants stay abreast of, and active in relevant ongoing and emerging transboundary issues; and
- Provide a forum and process for promoting Basin education, access to information and public participation that engages the public in an ongoing dialogue of the critical issues that affect the Columbia Basin.
